Fashion: Gap Basics

Favorite long-sleeve V-neck tee - optic white Supersoft crewneck tee - true black knit
For as far back as I can remember I have always been a huge fan of Gap. I am all about everyday basics that never truly go out of style. Gap to me is the leader in quality, reasonable prices and basics to mix and match in your wardrobe. I recently stopped by my local Gap and picked up some tanks, sweaters, and cardigans at incredibly low prices. Achieving your perfect wardrobe shouldn’t make you break the bank. Invest in the pieces you want to and save on the pieces that you can.
What is your must have basic in your wardrobe?

Travel: BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament

This week we are off to the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells! Enjoy!

image image image image image image image image image

“My husband and I had the distinct pleasure of attending the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells California. We go every year because it is 5 minutes from our home in the desert but we had never gone to the finals before. This facility and two week tournament draws over 400,000 people. It is played at arguably one of the most beautiful settings in the world. If you are a tennis fan there is no better place to watch the top players in the world compete. This year we saw Simona Halep win the women’s trophy from Jelena Jakovic, and Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer (my favorite player who I’ve always wanted to see). Watching th number one player in the world play the number two player in the world is so exciting. They hit the ball so hard it’s unbelievable.

Here are some of my photos from the tournament and the views from there of our gorgeous desert. Have you ever been to this tournament? If not plan a trip for next year.”

Book Reviews: Interview with Author Anita Hughes

One of my dreams has come true thanks to Ms. Anita Hughes. Ms. Hughes is my all time favorite author. I couldn’t have been more excited and honored when she agreed to answer some questions that I could share with all of you. Hope you enjoy!

What inspired you to write your first book?
I live on the grounds of the St. Regis Resort and I am surrounded by beauty. I thought, if you were consumed by grief and went somewhere really gorgeous, would you feel better? Or do you take your grief with you wherever you go.

Do you have a specific writing style?
I think my style is very descriptive. I love describing beautiful locations and delicious foods and gorgeous clothes.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Each novel has a different message but I find an underlying theme is how important female friendships are. I also definitely believe in love and happy endings!

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I often start with a nugget of something that happened to me or someone I know and it builds from there.

What books have most influenced your life most?
I read constantly so I have been influenced by many books. A few years ago, I was really affected by the work of Somerset Maugham. I read all his books and I remember thinking that all you need to learn you can learn from his books.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
There are so many wonderful writers! I used to love the work of Rona Jaffe because she wrote intelligent women’s fiction that was compulsively readable. I also admired Jacqueline Sussan – she wrote big, juicy books with smart characters.

What book are you reading now?
I just finished THE SECRETS OF MiDWIVES by Sally Hepworth which was wonderful, and I am reading THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN by Paula Hawkins and it is excellent.

What are your current projects?
I am so excited that I have two books coming out this year. FRENCH COAST will be released on April 7 and ROME IN LOVE (my novel about Audrey Hepburn) will be released on August 4th.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No, I really love FRENCH COAST. It came out exactly as I wanted to.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I won a nationwide writing contest in Australia (where I grew up) when I was eight and that really inspired me to write.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
My favorite author is a British author named Penny Vincenzi. When I start her books, I don’t want to do anything else. They are usually about 600 or 700 hundred pages long but I have read a few of them twice!

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Read constantly. I also think you should write the story that you can’t stop thinking about.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I love hearing from readers, it’s one of the best parts about being an author! I also love taking them to wonderful places, I am always thinking of the next location we are going to go.

Any sneak peeks you can give us about your new upcoming novel French Coast?
FRENCH COAST is set in two of my favorite places – San Francisco and the French Riviera and it is full of gorgeous scenery and family secrets. I hope my readers will enjoy it!

FrenchCoast_Final Cover 1.28Please make sure to pick up French Coast, available April 7. I can’t wait!

Thank you again Ms. Hughes. I am forever grateful.

Everyday Life: Notebooks on a Personal Level

Hope everyone had a fabulous week. This week I want to touch on a special subject.

I received an email from the CEO and Founder of MayBooks, as many of you may have as well. This email really spoke to me and was so touched. I already love this brand…but this note brought it to a whole other level. I admire Mica May so very much. In honor of World Down Syndrome Day, she is donating 100% of the proceeds from select notebooks to her son Jackson’s school, The Rise School. Please check them out here and shop for a good cause.

Fashion: Tory Burch York Ballet Flat

3009944-p-MULTIVIEWYears ago I used to manage a shoe store and always wore heels or wedges, but once I got some sense knocked into me…I fell in love with flats…and basically have worn them ever since. Years ago…when the Tory Burch hype began…I picked up a similar style to the York Ballet flat. I was so disappointed as they were extremely hard on your feet, uncomfortable, and they took forever to break in. Even though I adore the look of them…comfort means too much to me to spend a lot on another pair. I may try another style of hers in the future…but my first impression was not the greatest.
Do you like Tory Burch flats…if so what is your favorite style?

Beauty: Chanel Les Beige Healthy Glow Sheer Powder

2408901I love my skin with a dewy finish. As far back as I can remember that is always how I have preferred my makeup to look. Recently I was introduced to the Chanel Les Beige Healthy Glow Sheer Powder. Now I have not had luck with any powder type product that I have tried in the past…so I was very hesitant to pick this up at my local Nordstrom. I even had the sales associate apply it to my face prior to buying (which is so unlike me). I was sold immediately. This powder is not your typical powder product. It adds a glow unlike any other product I have ever used. It’s so finely milled that it would be incredibly hard for someone to tell you are wearing a powder. If you are on the fence about trying this I am going to give you that push to go check it out. Trust me when I say you will not be disappointed.
Have you tried Chanel Les Beige?

Travel: Lets Book a Trip to Maui, Hawaii!

This week…we are changing things up a bit. Here are some tips and advice to booking a trip to Maui, Hawaii! Enjoy!

“This week I will be sharing travel advice. I was planning our 30th anniversary trip. We always wanted to stay at the Four Seasons in Wailea in Maui and the Four Seasons on the island of Hawaii. The only drawback to the Four Seasons Hualalai is that it has no real beach. Otherwise it looks incredible.

We had a budget to stay within and I was having a hard time. We decided on just doing our favorite island, Maui. Our anniversary is in June and I changed dates over and over again. We finally chose October and the trip turned out to be almost $4000 cheaper. We even stayed $2000 under budget. This told me if you want luxury go on an off high season month. October in Maui should be less crowded and still great weather. More advice! Always book a package flight/hotel/car together. It is a much cheaper way to go. I hope this advice helps you in the future.”

What is your tip or best advice when booking a vacation?

Book Review: Monarch Beach by Anita Hughes

I think I have found my all time favorite author…Anita Hughes. Not only is she a fellow bay area native…her stories are some of the most incredible I personally have ever read. Monarch Beach is a wonderful story about a woman who finds her husband of 10 years cheating and her journey to finding herself and what she wants out of life. Although I cannot personally relate, you can’t help but to feel as if you are her friend going through this journey with her. Anita Hughes has a way of describing feelings, situations, and experiences with so much detail that you almost feel as if you are present in the book. If you are looking for a wonderful read…I highly suggest looking into any of the books by Anita Hughes.
