This week we are off to the San Rafael Italian Street Painting Fair! Enjoy!
“This week I am going to tell you about an event that is near and dear to my heart. Our whole family got involved in volunteering at the Italian Street Painting Fair close to home in San Rafael, California. Businesses hire artist’s and buy squares to be drawn on. Imagine the art in the Sistine Chapel painted on the street! It continues to amaze me how phenomenal artists draw with chalks on the streets that are closed to traffic for one weekend in June every year. It is so sad to see all the art work washed away afterwards. People flock to see the art, listen to fabulous musicians, and eat great food. It is a charity event for Youth in Arts. Art programs like these are so important for children to experience. The money goes to art education in the schools and after school programs. There is a part of the street that is saved for young artists to draw their own masterpieces. San Rafael is about a half hour north of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge. Include it in a trip to San Francisco and see Sausalito, Muir Woods, and Tiburon in Marin County as well.
Have you ever seen street painting or tried it yourself?”
